Description
The midge shrimp lives in schools and when swimming they look like a midge swarm. During daytime they hide in caves or between rocks, bur at night they will appear and feed. The eyestalks are very short. A similar shrimp can be found in fresh or brackish water, this is Hemimysis anomala.

Size
Length 10 mm to 13 mm.

Colour
The body is transparent with red speckles and the belly is pink to red.

Habitat
Usually in shallow water in caves, between rocks or in weeds. Does not like currents.

Distribution
Northeast Atlantic.
