Description
Most of the species within the Palaemonidae family have a teeth on the top of the
rostrum. Because the rostrum of the common prawn is long, sharp and bent, these
teeth are more pronounced. Mainly nocturnal active and can then by found in large
numbers.
Size
Length up to 110 mm.
Colour
They are transparent or glassy, with reddish brown and white speckles. On
their head and body there are reddish brown lines. The legs have clear yellow and
reddish brown bands around the joints and the claws on the first pair of legs are
bigger.
Habitat
In shallow coastal waters on hard substrate or between weeds.
Distribution
From Denmark to West-Africa, the Mediterranean and the Black sea.
