Description
Deadmen`s fingers consyst of colonies of small polyps. Older colonies are branched.
With extended polyps, they filter their food out of the water. This animal is in
fact a soft coral and theirby the only representative of this familie in the Dutch
waters. Size
Young colonies are up to 10 mm thick. Depending on current and age, they will grow
to a height of 200 mm and a thichness of 35 mm.
Colour
The leather-like skin is white or orange. The polyps are transparent.
Habitat
Always on hard substrate and likes a strong current.
Distribution
In the Northsea and in the western part of the Grevelingen and Oosterschelde.
