Description
The bell of the compass jellyfish looks like an umbrella, with a fine pattern of brown lines like a compass. The edge has a series of brown spots and long thin tentacles. In the centre of the bell there is the mouth, surrounded by four long mouth-arms. You can often observe juvenile fish between the tentacles, in search of protection. It has nematocysts. The long thin tentacles are easily overseen by swimmers and can cause a mild burning sensation, that will disappear very quickly.
