Description
This sponge was first recorded in the Netherlands in 1977. It forms tube like
processes that widen slightly towards the top. The osculum is terminal. Along
the rim of the osculum you can recognize a transparent membrane. Its feels soft
and is very fragile. Can be mistaken for Halichondria panicea.
Size
Can reach about 200 mm across. The tubes can be ± 100 mm high with a
diameter of 10 to 20 mm.
Colour
Purple-red to light brown.
Habitat
In he shallow zone to a depth of about 20 metres.
Distribution
Common in the Oosterschelde as well as the Grevelingen.
