Description
This diurnal moth is more common in the central and southern part of Europe. They have a preference for bushy areas and small forests. The body and wings are blue-black to black with white spots on it. The body has a conspicuous yellow band.

Size
Wing span about 40 mm.

Habitat
Hibernation takes place as caterpillar. Their food consists of herbal plants.

Flight season
From May till July.

Foodplants
Plantago sp. (plantain), Rumex sp. (sorrel), Galium sp. (bedstraw), Taraxacum officinale (dandelion), grasses and other low plants.

Distribution
Southern and central Europe. Relatively rare in western Europe.
