Description
The long-legged spider crab (Macropodia rostrata) is one of the many members of this family and it is the most common. But under water the species are very hard to determine. Long-legged spider crabs are small and have a more or less triangular carapace, with long thin legs. They are often very well camouflaged with sponge and or hydroids, but also with algae.

Size
The maximum length of the carapace is 25 mm and its length is greater than the width, but usually the animals are smaller.

Colour
Long-legged spider crabs are usually greyish-brown but sometimes also yellowish- or reddish-brown.

Habitat
The live from the tidal zone to a depth of 100 meters, on various substrata where they camouflage themselves with the organism they live on.
